Amsterdam Dance Event breidt ieder jaar een stukje verder uit. Nieuwe loot aan de stam: ADE Soundlab, die plaatsvindt van donderdag 15 t/m zaterdag 17 oktober. Ook is de Gear Playground weer verder uitgebreid. ADE Beats is een nieuw onderdeel waarin hiphop aan bod komt. ADE Next is als vanouds in een dit jaar iets kleinere Felix Meritis, op zaterdag 17 oktober. En verder is er natuurlijk het waanzinnige ADE Festival, 5 dagen lang (14-18 oktober) met 2200 optredende artiesten op meer dan 100 podia. De organisatie verwacht 365.000 bezoekers uit binnen- en buitenland. Ofwel het grootste clubfestival ter wereld…
Op de Gear Playground kun je de volgende merken verwachten met hun demo’s en hand-on sessies: Pioneer, Native Instruments, Universal Audio, Novation, Livid, Moog, Bitwig, RME, Izotope, Next Audio Labs. Deze merken kan je vinden in De Brakke Grond. Vlakbij, in het Compagnietheater kun je Ableton en Roland aantreffen.
Tijdens Soundlab dat op dezelfde locaties plaatsvindt as de Gear Playground kun je de MusicTalks volgen, met hotshots uit de wereld van de dance en omstreken: Jeff Mills, Joris Voorn, Henrik Schwarz, en Machinedrum, die allen hun gedachten zullen laten gaan over de ‘evolution of their sound’; verder live performances van Detroit Swindle & Nick Verstand, Modular Battles with Noisia's Thijs de Vlieger, Richard Devine, Sjamsoedin & Colin Benders, een expo van analoge synths, plus workshops en masterclasses van topartiesten als Kölsch en Dubfire. Ook zullen Dave Smith en Roger Linn aanwezig zijn in panels en bij hun stands.
Alles op de Gear Playground en Soundlab is met een ADE Card van een tientje te bezoeken. We selecteren alvast een hele serie interssante programma-items voor je, zie de lange lijst hieronder.

Combineer workshops en hands-on met de nieuwste Roland AIRA gear, met de nieuwste modulaire producten en de gloednieuwe Roland Boutique synthesizers in Het Compagnie Theater op Amsterdam Dance Event! Je kan Roland bezoeken van donderdag tot en met zaterdag.
De TR-909, TR-808 en TB-303: Het zijn allemaal legendarische instrumenten die de fundamenten van de elektronische muziek van vandaag gelegd zoals wij die kennen. Zelfs in de muziek van vandaag, kan je nog steeds verwijzingen horen naar deze invloedrijke instrumenten.
Roland AIRA is een nieuwe reeks producten ontworpen om de veranderende behoeften van de hedendaagse elektronische muzikanten te ondersteunen. In de studio of op het podium, AIRA brengt genrebepalende geluiden en moderne prestaties functies om een nieuwe generatie met behoud van de sonische karakter en responsieve feel van hun beroemde voorouders.
De modulaire synth familie is de volgende stap in de spontane creativiteit en hands-on prestaties. Het maakt niet uit of je een expert bent van nieuwe modulaire synthese, de state-of-the-art digitale technologie van de SYSTEM-1m, Bitrazer, Demora, Torcido en Scooper opent deuren op verschillende niveau’s. Bovendien is de full-analog SYSTEM-500 voorzien van de klassieke geluiden van de twee meest gerespecteerde modulaire instrumenten van alle tijden – de SYSTEM-700 en SYSTEM-100m.
Roland brengt niet enkel AIRA mee, maar ook de zeer begeerde nieuwe Roland Boutique-reeks zal erbij zijn! The Evolution of my Sound
Hij maakt deel uit van de dj-ploeg tijdens Awakenings Presents: Joris Voorn & Friends op 17 oktober in de Gashouder, tijdens ADE. Overdag doet hij een sessie Musictalks in het Compagnietheater als onderdeel van ADE’s Playground, met als titel The Evolution of my Sound. En daar heeft Henrik Schwarz veel over te vertellen. Zeker na zijn fascinerend project Instruments dat in april op cd uitkwam: laat de kick weg uit je productie en vervang de elektronica door akoestische orkestinstrumenten. Het resultaat is een hypnotiserend minimal music-achtig geheel. Schwarz zal veel over de klankkeuze van het orkest kunnen vertellen, maar ook over zijn projecten met Bugge Wesseltoft, waarbij hij de laptop opwaardeerde tot volwaardig podiuminstrument.
In Musictalks op ADE gaat hij verder in op de vraag hoe een artiest komt tot een herkenbare sound. Wordt dit signatuur al bij het begin van je muzikantschap bepaald, of groeit dit juist door jaren van ervaring. Of is een toevallige druk op een knop allesbepalend? Interessante materie voor een mooie discussie onder leiding van moderator Shawn Reynaldo.

Electronic artist Chagall has developed and programmed a 30 minute live audio-visual performance using gloves to control the sounds and vocal effects of her new EP ‘Stray Flux’. With the support of mi.mu’s interactive technology specialist Adam Stark, the performance will involve visual projections controlled by mi.mu gloves, and custom audio analysis algorithms generating visual movement in real-time reacting to changes in the music.

The drone lab is basically a 30 minute drone exploration with 10-12 Werkstatts, and also with a new synth that Moog will start building in October. You can curate and bring the different drones in and out with a mixer. Light bulbs will be connected to each synth which responds to the amplitude of each synth to create a visual aspect to it.

Detroit Swindle & The Programme is a musical and visual live act based around Detroit Swindle, their key player and an interactive visual instrument called K.A.T. (Kinesis and Audio Translator) created by visual artist Nick Verstand. Detroit Swindle re-invent their published work and improvise live on stage with a setup of drum computers, synths and loopers, while K.A.T. creates real time visual compositions based on the various musical elements as well as the artists’ movement and presence on stage.

“My brain, your brain” is a live performance in which brain activity is translated into sound an image. It is an investigation in the artistic use of brainwaves in a live performance, inspired by recent developments in neurosciences. The brains of two performers will be activated in different ways in such a fashion that the audience can experience it in visually. This project is a collaboration with the Amsterdam Brain Mind Project and the neuroscience departments of Amsterdans two leading universities.
