Speciale gast van Amsterdam Dance Event was Dave Smith, de man achter de polyfone synthesizer en de uitvinding van midi. Hij kwam ook naar de redactie van Interface en bracht hoogstpersoonlijk zijn nieuwste synth, de Prophet 12 mee, alsmede dezelfde synth in modulevorm, waarmee we de allereersten ter wereld waren die dat nieuwe product te zien kregen. In Interface 174, december 2013 vind je een uitgebreid interview met Dave Smith en hebben we natuurlijk meteen de kans waargenomen de Prophet 12 uitgebreid te testen. Ruud Lekx test in Interface 174, december 2013, de Prophet 12 van Dave Smith Instruments, kortweg DSI. Hij schrijft: "Dave Smith’s beste synth? Aan de ene kant zeg ik: nee, want een apparaat met de pure impact van een Prophet 5 maak je maar eens in je leven. Aan de andere kant zeg ik volmondig: ja, want wat de Prophet 12 allemaal kan, en vooral hóe, dat ben ik nog nooit in deze vorm tegengekomen." In Interface 174 publiceren we ook een uitgebreid interview met Dave Smith. Hij stond aan de wieg van midi en bouwde hoogstpersoonlijk de eerste draagbare polyfone synth. Hij is een levende legende, zonder wie jij nu waarschijnlijk op een andere manier muziek zou maken.
